MTD IT: Mapping Nominals to HMRC tax categories for a single Taxable Entity

Modified on Wed, 11 Mar at 11:53 AM

To ensure that the appropriate tax return categories are correct, you will need to map each of the income and expenditure nominals on your chart of accounts to the appropriate Self Assessment category. Balance sheet nominals are not required, as they are not included in the quarterly submission.

  1. From the Menu ribbon go to Ledgers > Self Assessment
  1. Select the taxable business entity you want to create the mappings for and click Mappings

Importing your mapping of income and expense nominals from the Excel MTD_IT Preparation Template is simple: go to Import, choose your file, and select Open. This will now show all the mapped nominals.

  1. If you have not prepared with our spreadsheet: Click Defaults to apply default categories based on the nominal group types

  1. Select the appropriate Category for each of the nominals
  1. If a nominal is not relevant to the taxable business entity leave the Category blank
  1. Once you have mapped all the relevant nominals click Save

NB A nominal can belong to more than one Taxable Entity.
